Follower trends and retention Instagram itself doesn’t retain past 30 days.
How it works
The Growth tab covers your current follower count, new follows and growth rate, profile views, and taps on your profile’s contact buttons (website, email, call, directions, book now).
Its "Long-term history" panel is fed by daily snapshots taken behind the scenes (not the Instagram API directly), so it survives past Instagram’s roughly 30-day retention window. It fills in gradually: once enough days accrue you get followers-over-time, rolling 30-day reach/interactions/profile-views charts, and a retention breakdown, net follower change, gross new follows, implied unfollows, and a retention percentage (how much of what you gained actually stuck).

Open Growth → Long-term history once it has data. "Implied unfollows" and "Retention" tell you whether growth pushes are sticking or churning.
Tips to get the most out of it
- Because Instagram doesn’t expose an unfollow event directly, the "Implied unfollows" figure (gross new follows minus net change) is the only way to see churn, watch it trend, not just its single-period value.
- A growth spike with low retention afterward often points at a follow-for-follow tactic or a giveaway that attracted low-intent followers.
