Instagram analytics that shows which post made you money

knit.bio’s Instagram analytics covers the numbers Instagram shows (reach, engagement, audience, growth, best times) and adds the part it can’t: a Post Report that follows each post from reach to comments, DMs, link taps and orders, so you can see what a post actually earned. It is free on every plan.

Free plan, no card needed. Instagram tools work with a Business or Creator account.

What does Instagram analytics tell you?

Instagram’s own Insights show what happened on Instagram: reach, likes, saves, follower growth and who your audience is. They stop at the edge of the app. They can’t tell you which post sent people to your link, started a DM, or ended in a sale, and they only keep about 30 days of account history.

knit.bio reads the same Instagram data through the official API, keeps a permanent daily record of it, and joins it to what happens next: DMs sent by your automations, taps on your links and orders in your store. The result is analytics that answer “what should I make more of?” instead of only “what happened?”.

How to read your Instagram analytics in knit.bio

  1. Connect Instagram

Log in with Meta from Settings → Instagram (Business or Creator account). Figures refresh from Meta about every 15 minutes, and you can force an update from the top bar.

  2. Start with the Overview

Four 30-day figures (reach, interactions, profile views, followers) each show their change against the previous 30 days. Every chart opens with a plain-language sentence written from your own numbers, so you read the takeaway first.

  3. Find what works on Audience, Content and Posts

See when your followers are online, which format earns the most reach, and rank every recent post by any metric (reach, engagement rate, likes, comments, saves, shares), which Instagram’s own app does not let you do.

  4. Open a Post Report

Pick any post and see it as a funnel: reached, commented, DMs sent, link taps, orders. The biggest drop between two stages is what to fix first, and “Do this next” ranks the actions.

What is in Instagram analytics

Best time to post

The hours your followers are online, in your own time zone, from your own data. Demographics need roughly 100 or more followers before Instagram will share them.

Engagement health

Engagement rate, discovery (the share of your reach from people who do not follow you), engaged-of-reached and save rate, each with a plain-language reading.

Every post ranked

Sort recent posts by any metric and expand one for its full breakdown, including watch time for Reels. Compare formats on average reach, not just totals.

Growth and profile visits

New follows, growth rate, how many profile visits ended in a follow, and taps on your website, email, call and book-now buttons. New follows are counted before unfollows, because Instagram does not report an unfollow event.

A dash is not a zero

A number Instagram did not report shows as “-”, never as 0. Unknown is not the same as nothing happened, and knit.bio never fills a gap with an invented figure.

A permanent record

Instagram keeps roughly 30 days. knit.bio saves a daily snapshot, so your history window is 30 days on Free, 90 days on Starter, 1 year on Pro, and unlimited on Max.

Post Report: which Instagram post actually earned money?

Post Report answers the question creators ask the morning after they publish: what did that post do for me? It follows a post through five stages: reached, commented, DMs sent, link taps and orders. Instagram reports the first two itself. The last three exist because knit.bio connects a DM, a tracked tap and a sale back to the post that started them.

Below the funnel are sections for how far it went, what people said, what your automation did with it, what it sent to your page, who it brought you, and a ranked “Do this next”. On Pro and Max it also shows what the post earned (revenue, revenue per 1,000 people reached, how soon the first order came, your best seller) and compares the post with your recent ones. Every plan still sees how many orders were traced to the post.

The funnel deliberately has no “page visits” stage, because nothing ties one tracked tap to one page session and that stage would be a guess dressed up as a measurement. For posts published before knit.bio started connecting DMs, taps and sales to them, reach and comments are real and everything after is unknown, not zero.

Deep Dive: health score, normal range and brand reports

Analytics says what happened; Deep Dive says what it was worth. It is included on Pro and Max. It gives you a 0 to 100 account health score built from six rates and placed against the healthy range for creators at your follower size (a published approximation, so read it as a zone, not a target).

“Is your latest post normal for you?” draws your recent posts against the middle half of your own posts, so one quiet post is not mistaken for a trend. It never claims your account is being penalised, because nothing in Instagram’s data can show that. Other cards follow the reach-to-revenue funnel, how long after a post its money arrived, and which tappable blocks on your page earned almost nothing.

For sponsorships, the For brands tab sets a deal’s fee against what happened (cost per 1,000 reached, per engagement, per click and per order) and can export a white-label PDF report (5 a month on Pro, unlimited on Max). “Ask your account” answers questions from your own numbers only, and every answer says what it was based on.

Limits and what it can’t do

Knowing the edges is part of choosing a tool. Several of these are Instagram’s rules, not ours.

  • Instagram’s API does not report unfollows, so churn is estimated as gross new follows minus net change, and is only tracked from the day you connect.
  • Story insights are kept by Instagram for 24 hours only. knit.bio saves each Story’s numbers as it expires, so Story history starts when you connect.
  • Revenue per 1,000 people reached counts only orders that came through a DM link tied to a post, so it understates what each format earns.
  • Instagram exposes no per-second retention curve for Reels, so knit.bio shows average watch time instead.
  • Peer comparisons need at least 10 connected accounts of your size. Until then you see the published range for your follower tier, labelled as a cold start.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Instagram analytics tool for creators?

It depends on the question. Instagram’s own Insights are enough for reach and followers over the last 30 days. Tools that keep history and rank posts help you find patterns. knit.bio is built for creators who also want to know what a post earned: it follows a post from reach to comments, DMs, link taps and orders, and it is free on every plan.

How do I find the best time to post on Instagram?

Use the hours your own followers are online, not a generic chart. knit.bio reads that from Instagram’s API and shows it, in your time zone, on the Audience tab and as chips in the scheduler. Instagram reports it by hour of day, not by weekday. See the best time to post on Instagram.

Can I track which Instagram post led to a sale?

Yes, for sales that came through knit.bio. A DM sent by an automation, a tap on a tracked link and an order in your store are each connected back to the post that started them, and Post Report shows the chain. Sales that happen elsewhere, with no tracked link in between, cannot be traced by any tool.

How far back does knit.bio keep my Instagram data?

From the day you connect. The history window is 30 days on Free, 90 days on Starter, 1 year on Pro and unlimited on Max. Instagram itself only exposes roughly 30 days, so knit.bio saves a daily snapshot to keep the rest.

Is my Instagram analytics data private?

Yes. knit.bio reads your account through Instagram’s official API with your permission. You can disconnect at any time, which stops everything but deletes nothing, or erase all the Instagram data knit.bio holds. “Ask your account” only reads a short summary of your own numbers, never anyone else’s comments or messages.

Do I need a paid plan to use the analytics?

No. Analytics, Post Report and Trial Bench are on every plan. Paid plans add longer history, what each post earned, the comparison with recent posts, and Deep Dive (Pro and Max).
