How it works

Ideas is the step before a draft. Type an idea and press Enter to jot it down, or use With details to add notes, a format, a target date and labels. Plan this opens the composer already set up (format, date and labels filled in) with the idea shown at the top as a reference. The caption is never pre-filled from an idea, so nothing goes out by accident. When you save the post, the idea moves to Planned and links to it.

Coming up lists dates worth posting around in the next 45 days: holidays, shopping days and awareness days, each with a one-line angle and a suggested format. It is a fixed calendar, not a live trend feed: Instagram does not share what is trending, so nothing here claims to know. Moving festivals such as Diwali and Holi are marked, because their date can differ by a day between regions.

Your audience is asking shows topics people keep asking for in your DMs and comments (from Audience Signals), with how many people asked. Plan it saves the topic as an idea and opens the composer; the Plan a post button on the Signals page does the same. On the Free plan you see how many topics there are, not the words.

On every plan, Draft writes a first-draft caption from an idea, in your voice (it reads a few of your recent captions for tone), with a placeholder such as [your offer] wherever it does not know a fact, and suggested hashtags for the first comment. Nothing is saved or published: the draft lands in the composer for you to edit.

Tips to get the most out of it

  • Answer the questions your audience asks most first: a post that answers a repeated question is one you already know people want.
  • Save a date as an idea two or three weeks ahead. A Reel needs more lead time than a photo.
