How to Sell Digital Products on Instagram (Without a Website)

Digital products are the most creator-friendly business model there is: you make the thing once, delivery costs nothing, and every sale after the first is nearly pure margin. And you don't need a website, Shopify store, or developer to sell them to your Instagram audience — you need a product, a payment account you already qualify for, and one link in your bio. Here's the whole playbook.

Step 1: Pick a product your content already proves you can make

The best first product is an extension of what people already follow you for:

  • Photographers / videographers: preset packs, LUTs, editing guides
  • Designers: templates, icon sets, font pairings, portfolio teardowns
  • Fitness / food creators: workout programs, meal plans, recipe collections
  • Educators & coaches: workbooks, study guides, mini-courses, checklists
  • Musicians / producers: sample packs, project files, tab books

Rule of thumb: if a question keeps appearing in your DMs and comments, the answer — packaged properly — is your first product.

Step 2: Set up payments you actually control

You don't need a merchant of record or a platform that takes a cut. Connect a payment account in your own name — Stripe or PayPal for international audiences, Razorpay or UPI in India — and sales go straight to your bank. On knit.bio this is a one-time connection in settings, and the platform fee on your sales is 0% on every plan: what your buyer pays, you keep (minus only your payment provider's standard processing fee).

Step 3: Build the page that does the selling

Your Instagram bio gets one link, so that link has to work hard. Set up a link-in-bio page with a store block and give the product a real pitch, not just a button:

  • A specific name — "35 Moody Lightroom Presets for Street Photography" beats "My Presets"
  • Proof — before/after images, a sample page, a 30-second preview video
  • A price with a reason — anchor it: "less than one hour of 1-on-1 editing help"
  • One page, one priority — while you're launching, the product sits at the very top of your page

On knit.bio, the store is included with paid plans (up to 10 products on Pro, unlimited on Premium — see pricing), and every new account starts with Premium features free, so you can build and test the whole funnel before paying anything.

Step 4: Let delivery run itself

The part people over-engineer. When a buyer pays, they should receive a secure download link automatically — no "I'll email it to you within 24 hours", which caps your sales at your inbox speed. knit.bio handles the file hosting, the secure link, and the order receipt for you; your job ends at making the product good.

Step 5: Drive traffic like a launch, not a link dump

  • Tease before you sell. Show the product being made. Ask which of two covers people prefer. By launch day the audience feels invested.
  • Say "link in bio" out loud. In Reels, in captions, in Stories with the link sticker. Every post about the product should end with the same instruction.
  • Pin the proof. Pin your best product-related post to your grid; it sells while you sleep.
  • Use launch pricing honestly. A real early-supporter price with a real end date. A countdown block above the buy button makes the deadline visible.
  • Follow up in DMs. Answer every product question personally; early buyers become your testimonials.

Step 6: Read the numbers, then iterate

Your page analytics tell you where the funnel leaks. Lots of profile visits but few page views? Your bio's call-to-action is weak. Views but no product taps? The pitch block needs work. Taps but no purchases? Price, proof, or trust. Fix one stage at a time — our conversion guide covers each fix in detail.

Start smaller than feels comfortable

Your first product doesn't need to be a masterpiece — a focused, useful, honestly priced product this month beats a perfect one next year. Package the thing your audience already asks for, put it behind one clean link, and let the page do the work. Create your page free and you can be taking orders this week.
