How Auto-DMs work
Comment a keyword, get a DM. No manual replying.
How it works
An Auto-DM automation watches for a trigger (a comment, a story reply/mention, or an incoming DM) and, when it matches, sends the commenter a DM via Instagram’s Private Replies API, and optionally posts a short public reply too ("Check your inbox! 📩").
Each automation you create appears as a card on the main IG Suite page with a live toggle, a trigger summary, how many times it has fired, and, if the DM includes a link, its click-through rate.
DMs sent from a story reply or mention must go out inside Instagram’s 24-hour messaging window, and comment→DM uses Private Replies specifically because it’s exempt from that window. All automations must stay within Meta’s Platform Policy (no spam, no unrelated content).
How it flows
Set it up
- 1
- 2
Turn it on
New automations are created enabled. Flip the switch on its card any time to pause it without deleting it.
- 3
Watch it work
The card updates live: "N triggered" counts every match, and a click-through % appears once the DM includes a link people can tap.
Tips to get the most out of it
- Keep DM copy short and give one clear next step (a link or a question) — it reads better inside Instagram’s DM window than a long paragraph.
- Use the "Rewind" action (the clock icon on any automation) to retroactively DM everyone who commented your keyword in the last 7 days, so a keyword you just launched isn’t only forward-looking.
